WAAX

ABOUT
WAAX is and always has been the musical manifestation of Maz DeVita’s forever vision. After four records, countless shows and many transformative moments, WAAX is back this time stepping fully into ferocious feminine energy. “I am not done yet,” says Maz DeVita. “I feel in my heart that I owe it to myself and the community I have built to continue and more so to show a formidable woman can be solely at the helm.” WAAX’s re-envisioning places front-woman and songwriter Maz DeVita in her power after a renewed creative awakening whilst collaborating with artists on other various projects in L.A in 2023. This transformative year led to her decision to relocate to LA permanently in 2024. With nothing holding her back and the abundance of living in the music capital of the world, Maz has been working on powerful new material for WAAX.
WAAX is an indie rock band from Brisbane, Australia, known for their electrifying energy, emotionally charged songwriting, and powerful live performances. Formed in 2013, the band quickly gained recognition for their unique blend of punk, rock, and alternative influences, building a loyal following both locally and internationally.
WAAX has released two EPs and two full-length albums—Big Grief (2019) and At Least I’m Free (2022)—both of which were feature albums on Triple J and received extensive airplay across local and international radio stations. The band's raw sound, combined with their fierce commitment to honest, emotive storytelling, has made them a mainstay in the Australian music scene, garnering them critical acclaim and a reputation for captivating live shows.
A key turning point in WAAX’s journey came in 2019 with their debut performance at SXSW, where they won Best Australian Act and were invited to play the prestigious Summer Stage in Central Park, New York. These landmark events propelled WAAX into the international spotlight, marking the beginning of their dedicated push into the U.S. market. Since then, the band has made significant strides in expanding their presence overseas.
In pursuit of further developing their international reach, WAAX's primary songwriter and sole member, Maz Devita, relocated to Los Angeles to focus on growing the band's U.S. fanbase and establishing valuable industry connections. Her time spent in L.A. has been instrumental in building the band's presence in the U.S., with the entire band now also based in the city. The relocation has opened new opportunities for collaboration and allowed WAAX to immerse themselves in the thriving music scene on the West Coast, further positioning them for success in the American market.
WAAX’s dedication to creative growth has also seen Maz Devita collaborate with a diverse range of internationally acclaimed artists, including K.Flay, Linda Perry (Christina Aguilera, P!nk), Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous), Simon Oscroft (One Republic), and Mallrat. These collaborations are shaping the band’s next album, which promises to mark a bold new direction in their sound.
With the band now fully integrated into the U.S. music scene, WAAX is ready to tour extensively in the U.S. while continuing to maintain and grow their audience in Australia. The band's relentless drive, musical innovation, and commitment to growth make them a group poised for even greater success, both in the U.S. and globally.
