Mola Oddity

ABOUT
Mola Oddity was founded in 2023 by Birdy K, Yider, and Asr in a time of uncertainty.
The name “Mola” came to Birdy in an unguarded moment of murmuring — an inspiration that seemed to echo the idea that goodness can no longer endure, while absurdity rushes in to shatter reality. The band embodies the quiet wisdom of the ocean sunfish (mola mola ), while embracing the possibility of endless growth. Their music carries eccentric humor and sharp social observation, insisting on awakening precious sparks of light even in the darkest moments.
On March 14, 2024, they released their debut album The Other Side of Hope, a work that emerged from within the tidal wave of pop. After more than a year of flux and refinement, 2025 welcomes three new members: Songkaer Muhatai (Carl) — a Kazakh guitarist who reunited with the band while exploring contemporary expressions of his musical heritage; Russell (DuDu) — a Taiwanese-Filipino bassist, Birdy’s longtime friend and neighbor, active for many years across Taiwan’s music scene; Olson Wang (Leon) — a Swedish drummer and the youngest member of the band, who first connected with them in a Shanghai bar called Tang , where friendship and vision flowed naturally.
Hailing from diverse corners of the world yet grounded in Beijing, Mola Oddity craft a sound that defies borders. Their music weaves the raw urgency of no wave, the edge of art punk, and the intimacy of folk into an organic tapestry. Music is their shared language, living proof of their belief that “life attracts more life.”
