Laura Gibson
ABOUT
Laura Gibson is an internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer and writer. Born and raised in an isolated Oregon logging town, she is perhaps best known for inspiring and performing the very first NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Over five albums and several collaborations, she has quietly established herself as one of the most compelling lyricists of our time. A wisdom-seeker in the lineage of Leonard Cohen, she is a keen observer of our shared humanity—of love and grief, of desire and forgiveness, of will and frailty. At the center of it all is her honest and otherworldly voice. “She has this uncanny way of drawing you into her ruminations, making you connect with her emotionally,” said Pitchfork. The Fader called her 2018 album, Goners, "So incessantly beautiful that one cannot help but want to gently crack it open to get to its beating core.” Between albums three and four, Gibson earned an MFA in writing from Hunter College, completing her thesis in the back of a tour van. Her essays have appeared in Talkhouse, the Los Angeles Review and Oregon Humanities Magazine, and she was a 2020 recipient of the McElheny Award from MIT for her work the Timber Wars podcast. She recently performed her first stand-up comedy set. She is very slowly working on a book. In 2027, she will release her first album in nearly nine years.
