ABOUT
Raam, an Iranian musician, writer, actor, and podcast host, began his musical journey as the singer/songwriter/founder of Hypernova in Tehran's underground music scene. His band quickly garnered international attention, with features in prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, MTV, Billboard, NPR, CNN, VICE, NME, and Vanity Fair. Raam's success paved the way for a new generation of Iranian underground artists, inspiring them to pursue their musical dreams despite the challenges.
In January 2018, tragedy struck Raam's family when his father, Kavous Seyed Emami, a renowned environmentalist, was arrested in Tehran on false espionage charges. Two weeks later, Kavous was killed in Iran's notorious Evin Prison. The devastating news forced Raam and his family to attempt to flee Iran. However, their escape was thwarted when authorities detained Raam's mother and confiscated her passport. While Raam and his brother were allowed to leave, his mother was held hostage in Iran for 582 days.
The harrowing experience deeply impacted Raam's life and artistic expression. Alongside his live musical performances with his band, Raam channeled his emotions and experiences into a one-man storytelling performance called "Departure." Through a powerful combination of storytelling and music, Raam shares his family's ordeal and honors his father's legacy.
In addition to his musical and theatrical pursuits, Raam launched a Persian-language podcast called "Masty o Rasty" in 2020. The podcast quickly gained popularity, amassing over 40 million streams since its inception. Through his podcast, Raam continues to connect with his audience and share his unique perspective on life, art, and the Iranian experience.
