James William Blades is a composer, producer, and music director with a multidisciplinary career spanning music, film, art, and fashion. He has created music for audiovisual projects with artists such as Beyoncé, Kahlil Joseph, and Theaster Gates, while also shaping sonic narratives for global campaigns with Google, BVLGARI, Instagram, Nike, and Mercedes. As the music director for fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner, he oversees the sound for her fashion shows and commercial content. Alongside his work in music and sound, James is a guest lecturer at Yale University. He has also created sound installations for venues including the V&A Museum, Palais de Tokyo, The New Museum, Art on the Mart, and, most recently, Luna Luna at The Shed. Represented by YOUNG Management and CAA for his feature film work, James has scored multiple films that have premiered at Sundance and the Venice Film Festival, such as Freediver, Mutt, Renaissance, and Pare de Sufrir. Beyond his work as a composer for film, TV, and commercials, James is the producer on his alt-pop project Gold Fir. He also runs his own music and sound studio, Interlude.
