Jaeho Hwang
ABOUT
Jaeho Hwang is a London/Seoul based DJ, producer, and visual artist who recontextualizes traditional Korean instrumentation and brings it into the contemporary club music scene. Inspired by the Buddhist concept of impermanent selfhood, his first EP “Non-Self/비자아” combines dark, industrial club beats with old Korean sound and samples. Jaeho explores his sense of identity in the digital age as refracted through the Buddhist concept of anatta, or non-self, the belief that there is no unchanging, permanent soul or essence in living beings. “Non-Self/비자아” was featured in XLR8R, DUMMY Magazine, Mixmag Korea, KALTBLUT Magazine, BBC Radio 6, 4:3 Boiler Room, etc.
Jaeho is a member of the Chinabot collective, created to change the dialogue surrounding Asian music. He has been invited to play on NTS Radio and hosts a monthly show on Internet Public Radio where he takes listeners on a journey through intriguing genres such as East and Southeast Asian music, Experimental, Avant-Garde, Techno, Electro, Pop, and K-Pop.
Jaeho has performed throughout Asia and Europe at spaces including Somerset House, Cafe OTO, etc. in London; ACUD MACHT NEU in Berlin; Le Hasard Ludique, Rinse FM in Paris; Loopy, Oil, M Wood Museum, etc. in China; Forest Limit, Hiroshima Art Museum, etc. in Japan; Cakeshop, Seoul Community Radio, etc in Korea; and other locales, with artists including Mykki Blanco, Foodman, bod[包家巷], Lawrence Lek, Ifeoluwa, Lafidki, Leevisa, Warmchainss, S.O.N.S, Eastern Margins, Sabiwa, and Diamond Terrifier.
