ABOUT

Dogwood Tales hails from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In 2016, Kyle Grim and Ben Ryan first found their footing as a duo in Harrisonburg’s vibrant DIY basement scene, eventually crossing paths with kindred spirits Jake Golibart and Danny Gibney.

With a full alt-country outfit stitched together, the band recorded and released their debut full-length album, Too Hard to Tell, in 2018. That record became their compass, carrying them beyond the familiar ridgelines into small clubs and basements up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest, where they opened for artists like John R. Miller, Illiterate Light, Susto, and The Felice Brothers.

Over time, Dogwood Tales shed the skin of simple country rock, letting their acoustic roots stretch into walls of humming electric guitars and intricate rhythmic undercurrents — all while preserving the tender duet-driven songwriting that has always set them apart. Their music now weaves a distinctive thread through the tapestry of indie and alternative rock.

Their most recent release, sending, explored a more intimate, lo-fi singer/songwriter landscape, but their upcoming record regrounds the group in full sonic force. It's a ride in a battered Chevy 3500, best friends in tow, chasing the endless horizon of figuring it all out. It’s a reflection of life lived in the valley, in burden and beauty, both present and remembered, surrounded by walls of blue ridge mountains, beneath the stars of Rockingham County.
