ABOUT
Babehoven is the Hudson, NY based project of singer-songwriter Maya Bon and collaborator Ryan Albert. Since 2017, the band has carved out a sound that blends melodic indie and folk rock with an occasional nod towards country. Bon serves as the project’s principal songwriter and lyricist, while Albert, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, further shapes the sonic world around her songs. Together, they’ve built a body of work that feels both intimate and expansive.
"Blue Around You," Babehoven's new single, is a country-flecked stomper. The song finds Bon singing with hard-won resilience: "Yesterday a stranger told me they can see / That I feel levels of pain that could've broken me / And I thought, mmm but I survived it." Recorded at The Chicken Shack and 12 Lb Genius in Upstate NY, Maya and Ryan gathered an excellent crew of musicians with producer Phil Weinrobe at the helm—Oliver Hill, Zosha Warpeha, Dylan Nowik, Jared Samuel, Ellington Peet, and Nick Kinsey. The core of the song was recorded live with no playback or headphones with the feel of the room being as much an instrument as the hardanger fiddle and harmonies that soar overhead.
